Feedback on first 30 days learning Chinese

Find the first part here: Linh self studies Chinese again - preparation, trial and error

Okay, so today I reached 30th streak on SuperChinese, I think it’s a good milestone to have a reflection. There are a lot of things get out of the plan, and let’s dig in.

Current tools

The status of the tools I listed in previous post:

Tool Still Using?
Memrise No
SuperChinese Yes
TodaiiChinese No
Textbooks No

Memrise

I was in mid level 3 or 4 when return learning Chinese on Memrise, and I have to say it was a terrible experience. I didn’t remember anything and basically can’t review anything. The phrases in Memrise are too advanced for me. And I sense that their focus is on conversations. They provided phrases by phrases, that leads to a problem - I can’t read the hieroglyphic characters… I find this app isn’t effective for me in this stage of studying. Because I have its lifetime version, so I will re-evaluate how to use it to maximise benefits.

SuperChinese

I love this app too much. The app itself provides enough foundations to learn Chinese, from grammar, vocabulary, listening to speaking. There are also pinyin lessons…

My energy matches with this app, so I feel most comfortable learning from this one.

The only problem is my progress is kinda slow and not stable. I plan to finish HSK1 lessons in a month, but I am currently half-way.

TodaiiChinese

It isn’t a bad tool, but I won’t use it in one more months, mainly because it’s more of review and extend vocabulary. So I need a foundation to gain real value from it.

Textbooks

Basically, I am unable to open the textbooks when returning home. God saves me.

But I seriously need to use the notebooks to improve my ability to read the hieroglyphic characters.

Vision for Future

In short, I think the most important point is the consistency. That learning Chinese is a habit exists in my mind , that when I feel up or down, I still open the app to learn a meaningful lesson or have a good review.

The progress is slower than I expect, but at least I made steps forwards.

See you next time.
